The IAU-OAE Conference on Astronomy for Education is a fully virtual conference focusing on astronomy education for primary and secondary school students and teacher training both in universities and in-service. It is organised by the IAU Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE) and is held annually in November.
The conference features sessions on Astronomy Education Research; Teaching methods and tools; Astronomy education in schools in practice (primary and secondary schools). In addition to that, every year the conference features two special topics: a Science focus and an Education focus.
The IAU Office of Astronomy for Education Center Italy supports OAE in the organisation of the conference and curates a special session on one of its focus areas (Person-centred learning practices; Activities in the Mediterranean region; astroEDU) or among the topics identified by the organisers. It also contributes to the conference by expressing members of the Scientific Organising Committee.
The IAU-OAE Conference on Astronomy for Education conference, starting in 2026, continues the successful legacy of the seven Shaw-IAU Workshops on Astronomy for Education that took place between 2019 and 2025. The first workshop was held in December 2019 in Paris, and then the following editions were run as fully online workshops, with no in-person event. The initiative is generously funded by the Shaw Prize Foundation.
