Voices of the Night is a multidisciplinary project exploring how local communities perceive and remember the night sky, focusing on the impacts of light pollution over generations. The project brings together Italian and Moroccan teams to capture personal and cultural narratives through interviews, photography and storytelling, transforming these voices into a photographic exhibition and a set of high-impact educational activities.
The project engages residents of Asiago (Italy) and Oukaïmeden (Morocco), two regions renowned for their astronomical significance and efforts in dark sky preservation. Fieldwork includes collecting stories, documenting nightscapes, and co-designing educational materials inspired by resources from the AstroEdu platform. The resulting exhibition combines evocative portraits, pristine night skies, and rich narratives, complemented by workshops, panel discussions, and night-sky walks designed to engage both students and the wider community.
Educational activities are co-created with local schools and institutions, fostering intercultural dialogue and promoting awareness of light pollution and responsible lighting practices. The project also includes thorough impact evaluation, assessing social, cultural, and educational outcomes, and producing a final report in the form of a documentary or other digital media.
By connecting distant communities and blending science, art, and cultural heritage, Voices of the Night aims to inspire a renewed relationship with the stars, encourage sustainable practices, and celebrate the shared value of darkness as a vital part of our environment.
